Olympus #2 (Image Comics)
By Nathan Edmonson & Christian Ward

The second issue of Edmonson and Ward‘s Olympus dives deeper into the backstory of the twins, Castor and Pollux. We see them briefly as they were, 3000 years ago, among the Argonauts, before returning to the present-day, where an ancient threat is reasserting himself in the modern world. Edmonson and Ward have done their homework — they’ve plucked a nicely obscure character who was really only a placeholder in the legend of his origin, and they’ve extrapolated some real venom that makes him a great villain. Things only get worse for the brothers when they realize that, to battle the threats against Olympus, they’re going to have to split up. The book uses mythology well to craft a contemporary fantasy that excites. Ward‘s non-traditional artwork, likewise, is a real complement to the story. It looks right, it feels right. It works. I’m enjoying this miniseries quite a bit.
