Dynamo 5 #3
Dynamo 5 #3 (Image Comics)
By Jay Faerber & Mahmud A. Asrar
In just three issues, I’ve come to anticipate this series just as much as Jay Faerber‘s other book, Noble Causes. One of the late Captain Dynamo’s crimefighting buddies is losing control of his powers, and it’s up to his five offspring to find him and talk him down — if they can. This book is really heavy on the characterization, as the five Dynamos continue to learn about each other. The dynamic of this team is truly unique in comics, and the best stuff about this title is watching them build not just their team, but a family. We also get a nice little shocker at the end, which thrusts the main plot more deeply into classic superhero territory. Faerber does a brilliant job with the balancing act between the soap opera and the superheroics. Asrar‘s artwork is really great too, traditional superhero storytelling with the ability to tell a story very well. Already, Dynamo 5 has set the pace as one of the best books in the Image stable.
