Noble Causes #31 (Image Comics)
By Jay Faerber & Yildiray Cinar

All of Gaia’s machinations come back to haunt her this issue. First, she conjured up a monster for her family to beat so they could look good, then she kept an amnesiac Liz from regaining her memory so she couldn’t rat on her. When the cover is blown, it’s the Nobles versus Gaia herself. Faerber recently announced that with the next issue of this book, the story is going to leap forward five years. That knowledge in hand, this issue has more of a feeling of finality to it. Things that looked like a plateau, a place to rest the story for a bit, instead feel like plot threads are wrapping up entirely to make room for the stories that we’re going to see after the jump. The way the status quo has changed by the end of the issue is really quite astonishing — there’s a much bigger shift than I would have expected. This is definitely a different title by the end of the book, and I’m looking forward to see how much else has changed when we come out of the other side of the Five Years Later gap.
