The Lone Ranger (2006 Series) #9

The Lone Ranger #9 (Dynamite Entertainment)
By Brett Matthews, Sergio Cariello, John Cassaday

The young Lone Ranger encounters a boy with a thirst for revenge to rival his own. As they seek out the corrupt businessmen responsible for the boy’s miseries, Tonto is uncertain of their young ally, but John sees too much of himself in the lad. This is clearly a darker, more “adult” version of the Lone Ranger than readers are used to seeing. It’s more of a hardcore, realistic western. (Well, as realistic as you can get when your protagonist wears a mask and shoots silver bullets.) Matthews manages to built the issue up to quite a cliffhanger as well. Between this comic and Jonah Hex, it hasn’t been such a good time to be a fan of western comics for many, many years.
